Conservation & Wildlife Experience Elephants, giraffes, and conservation education
08:30: Pickup from your Nairobi hotel.
09:00-09:30: Drive to Karen suburb (approx. 30 minutes from city center).
David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage (09:30-11:30)
09:30-11:00: Free time to visit the shop, learn about the orphanage's history, and wait for the 11 AM feeding session.
11:00-11:45: Public viewing hour begins! Watch orphaned baby elephants emerge from the forest for their milk feeding. See them play, mud bath, and interact with their keepers. Listen to each elephant's rescue story and current health status.
Key Information: Each elephant has a tragic backstory (mother killed by poachers, fell in well, etc.) and is being rehabilitated for eventual release back to the wild.
Giraffe Centre (12:00-13:30)
12:00-12:15: Short drive (5 minutes) to Giraffe Centre.
12:15-13:30: Spend time at the raised feeding platform hand-feeding endangered Rothschild giraffes. These gentle giants will come right up to you for pellets and may even give you a "giraffe kiss" with their long purple tongues!
Activities:
- Feed giraffes from elevated platform (eye-level)
- Walk nature trail through indigenous forest
- Visit the education center and learn about giraffe conservation
- Spot resident warthogs (Pumbaa!) in the grounds
- Browse gift shop for souvenirs
13:30-14:00: Return to your hotel.
Optional: Stop for lunch at nearby Tamambo Karen Blixen Coffee Garden or Brew Bistro (own expense).
