Cycling & Hiking Adventure Bike with wildlife, hike dramatic gorge
07:00: Pickup from your Nairobi hotel.
07:00-09:00: Drive to Hell's Gate National Park near Naivasha. Stop at Great Rift Valley viewpoint.
Cycling Safari (09:30-12:30)
09:30: Park entrance. Bike fitting, safety briefing, and helmet check.
09:45-12:30: Cycle through the park (10-15km at your own pace). Hell's Gate is unique - it's the only Kenyan park where you can bike and walk without a vehicle!
Wildlife Encounters:
- Zebras often cross the track right in front of you
- Giraffes browsing acacia trees along the route
- Buffalo herds (give them space - your guide advises)
- Warthogs, Thomson's gazelles, eland, hartebeest
- Klipspringers on rocky outcrops
Scenic Stops:
- Fischer's Tower: 25-meter volcanic rock pillar (photo opportunity)
- Central Tower: Another dramatic volcanic plug
- Geothermal Vents: See steam rising from earth
Lunch Break (12:30-13:15)
Packed lunch at picnic site or restaurant near gorge entrance. Rest and prepare for gorge hike.
Hell's Gate Gorge Hike (13:30-15:00)
Park bikes and descend into the gorge with mandatory guide:
- Navigate narrow passages between 50-meter high walls
- Scramble over rocks and through caves
- See "Devil's Bedroom" - a side cave
- Follow water stream through the gorge
- Feel the cool temperature inside the canyon
Note: Some sections require climbing over rocks using hands. Wear closed shoes. Not recommended after heavy rain (flash flood risk).
Optional Rock Climbing
If you're certified or want to try with instructors, Fischer's Tower offers excellent climbing routes.
15:30: Return bikes to gate.
15:45-16:30: Drive back to Nairobi, arriving early evening.
Fitness Note: Moderate level required. Park is mostly flat terrain with some gentle hills. Gorge hike involves scrambling. Children should be 10+ years and comfortable on bikes.
