Shimba Hills National Reserve & Sheldrick Falls Safari

Are you ready to go beyond the safari vehicle? The Shimba Hills National Reserve Safari is an invitation to explore Kenya’s wild side on foot. While the reserve is home to over 500 African elephants and the rare, scimitar-horned Sable Antelope, the true highlight for any adventurer is the trek to Sheldrick Falls. Guided by an armed ranger, you’ll descend through ancient tropical forests, navigating trails lined with giant ferns and exotic orchids until you reach the thunderous roar of the falls. Plunging 25 meters into a sparkling natural basin, Sheldrick Falls offers the rare opportunity for a wild swim in the heart of the jungle. It’s a day of raw nature, physical challenge, and breathtaking coastal vistas that you simply won't find on the savannah.

Safari Highlights:

  1. The Rare Sable Antelope: Shimba Hills is the only place in Kenya where you can spot these majestic, scimitar-horned antelopes.

  1. Sheldrick Falls: A guided 2-km trek through the rainforest to a stunning 25-meter waterfall where you can take a cooling dip.

  2. Massive Elephant Population: Home to one of the highest densities of African elephants in the country.

  3. Elephant Hill & Ocean View Point: Breathtaking vistas that stretch from the lush Mwaluganje Sanctuary all the way to the Indian Ocean.

  4. Unique Flora: Discover rare orchids and cycads endemic to this coastal rainforest.

  5. Perfect For:

  1. Adventure Seekers & Hikers: If you prefer "active" safaris over sitting in a vehicle all day, the 5km trek through the jungle to reach the base of Sheldrick Falls provides the perfect physical challenge and adrenaline rush.
  1. Nature & Bird Lovers: As one of Kenya’s top biodiversity hotspots, this tour is a dream for those looking to spot rare orchids, ancient cycads, and over 111 bird species.
  1. Diani & Mombasa Vacationers: Located just 45-60 minutes from the coast, this is the best "day-trip" safari for travelers who want a wild experience without the long drives.
  1. Wildlife Enthusiasts Seeking Rarity: Perfect for "bucket-list" travelers who want to see the Sable Antelope, one of the rarest and most beautiful antelopes in Africa which cannot be found anywhere else in Kenya.
  1. Photographers: From the misty, atmospheric forest floors to the breathtaking "Ocean View" vantage points where the greenery meets the blue horizon, every turn offers a postcard-perfect shot.
  1. Couples & Honeymooners: The hidden nature of Sheldrick Falls and the romantic, quiet atmosphere of the forest lodge make this a favorite for those seeking an intimate escape from the crowded beach resorts.
