Funzi Island Tour A Journey Through the Mangroves
07:30 AM:The Journey Begins. Our professional driver-guide picks you up from your hotel in Diani (or 06:30 AM from Mombasa). Enjoy a scenic drive through lush coconut and sugarcane plantations, passing through vibrant local villages as we head to the Bodo Jetty.
09:00 AM: Into the Mangrove Wilds. Board a traditional motorized dhow or canoe. We begin our adventure by gliding through the intricate mangrove channels. Your guide will explain the fascinating "breathing roots" of these trees and their role in protecting the coast.
10:30 AM: Ramisi River Crocodile & Bird Safari. We head upstream into the Ramisi River. This is where the wild things are! Keep your eyes peeled for the legendary Nile Crocodiles sunning themselves on the mudflats. Above, look out for the vibrant plumage of rare coastal birds and the occasional colony of colobus monkeys in the riverside trees.
12:00 PM: The Sandbank Experience As the tide recedes, we sail to the Funzi Sandbank. Imagine a stretch of pure white sand surrounded by nothing but ocean.
01:30 PM: Authentic Swahili Seafood Lunch. We head to the island for a mouth-watering lunch served in a rustic, "Robinson Crusoe" style setting. Menu Highlights: Freshly grilled fish/crab, coconut rice (Wali wa Mnazi), tropical fruit platters, and local Swahili delicacies.
03:00 PM: Cultural Village Walk (Optional). Take a gentle stroll through Funzi Village. Meet the friendly local Shirazi community.
04:00 PM: Return Cruise & Drop-off A relaxing boat ride back to the mainland, catching the golden afternoon light over the water. Our vehicle will be waiting to whisk you back to your hotel, arriving in time for dinner.
